Timing Isn’t Everything

I never liked the phrase “timing is everything”. It places an incredible amount of pressure on some magic moment.

But timing isn’t everything. Consistency — doing something again and again — will trump timing every time. It’s the act of practicing, trying, failing, and re-trying that gives each moment the chance to be better than the one before

So instead of waiting for your lucky break, find what’s worth doing in the most important areas of your life, and set that work on repeat.

  • If you’re in a relationship/partnership, try weekly date nights, not just big celebrations.
  • If you’re trying to save money, focus on monthly, automatic savings in a few types of investments rather than betting on single stocks.
  • If you’re trying to improve your health, focus on regular meditation and exercise rather than extreme diets or workout binges.
  • If you’re feeling frazzled at work, try creating regular time for deep work and separate instances for quick communication rather than being reactive throughout your day.

Consistency is more important than timing.
